EMBL-EBI has recently implemented the ServiceNow platform to help manage and deliver an ITSM framework including problem, change, and incident management, and to automate functions and standard procedures within our IT environment. Our IT teams are moving away from our existing ticketing system (RT) to ServiceNow, to improve the user support experience through improved integrated services. ServiceNow will be used to integrate the entire lifecycle of Incident and Service Request Management and provide a user facing interface for service request, incident reporting, service usage and associated documentation.
As a ServiceNow Developer at EMBL-EBI you will be involved in developing, designing and supporting the technical solutions on the ServiceNow platform. You will provide administration, application development, integration with other IT services, maintenance, and technical support, using best practice web programming techniques to create robust solutions for EMBL-EBI services utilising the ServiceNow platform.
Your role
As a ServiceNow Developer, you will have the opportunity to:
- Successfully plan, execute, monitor, control, and close all technical tasks related to configuration and implementation of all aspects of the ServiceNow platform.
- Provide software development and customisation including, but not limited to: screen tailoring, workflow administration, report setup, data imports, integration, scripting, third party software integrations, and custom application development.
- Obtain and analyse/interpret business requirements to propose sustainable solutions in ServiceNow.
- Coordinate and solve complex technical data and transformation issues.
- Answer “how to” technical and application configuration questions about the ServiceNow system.
- Develop, maintain, and execute reports to ensure system operation meets performance targets.
- Update and maintain a comprehensive testing protocol for ServiceNow instance upgrades.
- Perform manual and unit testing, analyse test results and validate application data to meet functional specifications and maintain test plans and production support procedures for software and systems already in place.
- Create and maintain system design and operations documentation.
- Commit to the continuous improvement and learning of ServiceNow best practices, tools and technology.
You have
- Overarching understanding of ServiceNow Enterprise product suite.
- Experience developing applications using ServiceNow scripting and workflows.
- Experience of designing and developing interactive and user-friendly web pages, forms and catalogs using Javascript, jQuery, Angular/Jelly script and CSS/HTML.
- Fundamental understanding of the key technologies relevant to ServiceNow integration solutions, including: SSO, SAML, SSL, Web Services, LDAP, JDBC, ODBC, REST, SCP, FTPS
- Demonstrable experience with ServiceNow APIs and integration with other IT systems.
- Ability to to import and export data between Service Now and other systems and assist in creation of views for reporting purposes.
- Experience supporting the ServiceNow platform by troubleshooting a variety of complex software problems, implementing bug fixes, and performing root cause analysis.
- Display aptitude in learning new modules based on training materials
- Familiarity with agile development processes methodology in ServiceNow applications development.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Computer Science, IT or an equivalent qualification.
- 2+ years experience of ServiceNow development and IT service management process design.
- ServiceNow System Administrator Certification.
- Background in ITIL, Service Management, Asset Management or IT Management.
- Knowledge of web-based systems architecture, service-based architecture, and enterprise application architecture.
- Knowledge of Agile/Scrum concepts, ideally with experience operating in a Scrum team
- Proven ability to work independently and as a team member
- Good organisational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills
- Experience of managing stakeholder expectations and prioritising workloads
You might also have
- 4+ years of ITSM systems integration and/or implementation experience.
- Implementation Specialist Certification or Certified Application Developer.
- Ability to perform high level CMDB/Asset implementations for user requested ‘IT Assets’.
- ITIL Foundation certification is highly desirable
