We are looking for a Principal Search Engineer (f/m/d) to help us deliver an amazing search experience in more than 45 countries and 25 languages. We power 50M+ searches per day across 4 continents, with local Elasticsearch clusters on top of Kubernetes. You will be driving relevance and focusing on getting high-quality results by using state of the art technology in Information Retrieval and Machine Learning.

Your mission:
Champion best practices and new approaches in our approach to information retrieval
Mentor other search engineers
Develop scalable solutions which power the Delivery Hero Search engine
Use data to improve findability, ranking and relevance
Better understand customer searches and use data to drive improvements
Stay up to date with latest developments in information retrieval, and implement novel approaches
Work with structured and semi-structured data from different data sources (BigQuery, PostgreSQL, Spark and many more)
Contribute and make an impact in a global, fast-moving tech organization
Your heroic skills
You have experience in building search engines
Experience with Elasticsearch, Solr or Lucene
Experience in designing Elasticsearch indexes
You can write maintainable code that follows best practices in software engineering
Experience with Java
Experience with working on data pipelines
A great team player and a pragmatic thinker
Fluency in English
Nice to have
Experience with designing language-specific analyzers
Experience with ecommerce search
Experience with building offline-evaluation tools
Knowledge of LTR approaches and different ranking quality metrics
Experience with building autocomplete features based on user searches and interactions
Experience with designing and building data pipelines and orchestrating them with Apache Airflow
