Do you think this could be you? We are looking for an awesome Director of Engineering - Consumer Area (m/f/d) to join our Tech management team at Westwing.
Our Tech Department is the heart of Westwing, driven by passionate people developing state-of-the-art infrastructure and applications. As a member of the Tech management team, working together with the CTO, the Director of Consumer Engineering will be directing a growing organization of several Tribes, having 5-7 direct reports and 150-200 total team size. Your peers will be other Engineering, Product and Tech Operations Directors.
Our Tech Stack: AWS, Linux, Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, GitLab, Nginx, Prometheus, Grafana, Redis, RabbitMQ, MySQL, React, Kotlin, Swift, NodeJs, PHP 7+, Typescript, Python
Your responsibilities will be:
• Build highly scalable web and mobile solutions for our customers in close cooperation with the Director of Consumer Products
• Lead a world-class team of engineers, QA’s, and collaborate with designers to ship new components and features
• Work in an agile & international team with flat hierarchies and very short decision-making process
• Oversee the core architectural design decisions and ensure that high-quality software is delivered
• Retain, hire and develop your team
• Mentor and coach direct reports as well as peers
• Establish a positive and trustful work environment where people take ownership and responsibility
• Maintain and constantly re-evaluate technology roadmaps in order to improve the status quo
• Collaborate closely with other Tribes and other Departments within the company
• Manage resources and budget
• Manage and coordinate third-party service providers, consultants and vendor relationships
• Use data to inform decisions and get buy-in from stakeholders
• Report directly to the CTO
You come with:
• 5+ years of experience in Engineering Leadership, having lead multiple teams in a digital product business
• Outstanding communication, presentation and leadership skills
• A deep understanding of Software Architecture and Infrastructure in the cloud (AWS, K8s)
• Solid understanding of and passion for agile software development
• Expertise in recruiting, hiring and onboarding of engineers
• Attention to detail, well-organized working mode, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Very good verbal and written English skills
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills
• Solid coaching and mentoring skills
• Experience in maintaining and approving budgets
• Capability to deliver multi-year programs
• Aptitude to take decisions with company-wide impact
• Capability to build and maintain relationships with key consultancy and solution vendors
